Natasha’s Daily Scripture, Prayer, and Reflection for 9.28.12

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:1-5 KJV

Father I believe in only You as my source. I believe You are God and are the God who created the heavens, planets, and life for all. You are Mind, Truth, Love, Spirit, Soul, Light, Goodness, and Greatness. You are Alpha and Omega. You are all-in-all. I pray to You. I worship You. I believe in You. I have faith that no matter what You will always be here for me, even when I have doubt in my capabilities, and even when I disappoint You.

I thank You Father for all I am and for all I have. I thank You for the abundance of blessings received, and for those that You have cast out for me to receive. I thank You for the challenges that have made me stronger, wiser, braver, more patient, more understanding, more forgiving, more flexible, and better prepared for tomorrow. I work each day to not take life and these gifts for granted. I try to make right my wrongs, take care of my debts and forgive my debtors and those who have harmed me. Keep filling me Lord so that I have more to share with others. I pray this to You today with joy, hope, humility, and love in my heart. Amen.

I want to thank my aunt Princess for sharing this scripture on September 12th. I said that I would share it in a daily message, and today is the day. What a great day it is!

So reflecting on today’s message and prayer, let’s think of this…If we tell ourselves and others that we believe in and pray to only one God, the God of Moses, David, Daniel, and Jesus—then why do we not equip ourselves with His Word so that we can overcome challenges, temptation, fear, negativity, and evil? Why do we not study God’s Word as we would a book we read for leisure, school, or work? Why are we more inclined to read and recite a self-improvement or self-empowerment book that may highlight aspects of the Bible, yet we won’t go to the source that the author is citing?

But even then, we must do more.

There are tons of people out there that can recite line by line, verse by verse, certain passages and chapters in the Bible—yet they aren’t living their lives according to God’s law. They aren’t following the command that Jesus said was most important, which was loving our neighbors AND enemies as we love ourselves. Even if you struggle with Old Testament thinking, and argue that even New Testament ways are outdated (and difficult to apply to modern times) how can you dispute the basic principles of the Ten Commandments, and Jesus’s famous and comprehensive commandment?

I struggle with adhering to a few of God’s commandments because sometimes I don’t tell the whole truth out of fear of hurting someone’s feelings, so I try to creatively express myself in a way that would impact the person less. Yet, I’m not telling them the truth—not really. So I’m working on telling the truth lovingly while finding a way to do so without severely hurting people, because I don’t want to lie to them or hurt them. God didn’t say, “okay, little white lies are acceptable”.

I also struggle with and am praying on my ability to consistently alter my language, making sure that nothing profane or negative comes from my mouth. This too is a constant work in progress, because there are times when things slip out of my mouth or are seasoned with negativity, and I have to stop and ask God to forgive me. I then feel a heaviness on my heart. I don’t like that feeling, so I’m working on getting ‘me’ right.

We have to constantly fight the darkness that tries to creep in, slip in, and dive in to our lives. We need to train ourselves to see it and stop it before it can enter our space. If not we will always wander around in a little ‘funk’ with added weight on our backs, necks, and shoulders that only holds us down.

Have an amazing day and weekend family. I love you!

Love always,
