Then Jesus came up, touched them, and said, “Get up; don’t be afraid.” When they looked up they saw no one except Him— Jesus alone. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Don’t tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” So the disciples questioned Him, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first? ” “Elijah is coming and will restore everything,” He replied. “But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist.
Matthew 17:7-13 HCSB
Father I pray for insight to always see what You want me to see, hear what You want me to hear, and understand what You need me to know. I pray that my heart is always warm, treating each person I encounter the way I would want my loved ones treated. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
I’ve said it before, we don’t know who walks amongst us. The people were waiting for Elijah and didn’t know that John the Baptist was the one they were waiting for—the same person beheaded under the orders of King Herod after he was manipulated by Herodia. The very prophet everyone was anxiously awaiting was killed.
The same happened to Jesus Christ our Savior. The people sought Him, doubted Him, then crucified Him. So what makes today any different than thousands of years ago? We seem to be more cynical and skeptical than in the past, so how would we know if Jesus was walking amongst us in human form? Think about it.
Have an amazing weekend family.
