Natasha’s Daily Scripture, Prayer, and Reflection for 5.23.13

“You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit; as your ancestors did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They even killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become. You received the law under the direction of angels and yet have not kept it.”

Acts 7:51-53 HCSB

Pray
Father forgive us. Forgive us for being so ignorant, arrogant, foolish, prideful, obnoxious, self-absorbed, judgmental, and fearful. Forgive us for being cold, inflexible, doubtful, cynical, and hardened. Forgive us for ignoring, disbelieving, criticizing, ridiculing, persecuting, crucifying, and killing those people You have sent to help us. Forgive us for being blinded by lies, and for unknowingly serving the enemy every time we fail to serve You. Please don’t give up on us Father. I humbly pray to You for Your continued mercy and grace, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection
Look around the room, car, or area you are currently in. What do you notice? What do you see that you don’t recall seeing before? Is there anything out of place? Now if you can, close your eyes and count to 12, and then open your eyes again. Look around. Do you see anything else around you that you didn’t notice the last time?

We oftentimes overlook things that are nearby. We are so busy, and consumed with so many things that we don’t realize things both big and small around us. We do this with people all of the time. So why wouldn’t we overlook or walk past a blessing from God? Why wouldn’t we ignore an angel speaking to us, guiding us, protecting us?

Why wouldn’t we overlook, and not recognize Jesus even if he was standing right in front of us, speaking to us, opening the door at a store for us, helping us pick up the bag we dropped on the ground, or handing us the credit card we forgot on the department store counter?

We don’t know what Jesus looks like. Depending on the home you enter, Jesus is white and has long straight blond hair, or he’s olive color with long curly hair, or brown-skinned with brown hair, or brown-skinned with long curly hair.

I’ve even seen a picture of Jesus with an Afro.

How would you know Jesus if you saw him? How would you know the son of God, when you spend so many hours of each day walking past people and not making eye contact, not speaking, and not going out of your way to be helpful, courteous, and giving? What if the dirty, smelly man on the corner wearing dirty clothes and asking for money or food was Jesus, would you know?

We must change our ways. Why spend your time talking about “Jesus is coming” when you don’t know when he’s coming or if he’s already here? Live your life like he’s standing right beside you. Treat each person you meet, know, and encounter, as though they are Jesus. Spread and share Love!

Love always,

Natasha
