Whenever they hand you over, don’t worry about how to speak or what you will say, because what you can say will be given to you at that moment. You aren’t doing the talking, but the Spirit of my Father is doing the talking through you. Brothers and sisters will hand each other over to be executed. A father will turn his child in. Children will defy their parents and have them executed. Everyone will hate you on account of my name. But whoever stands firm until the end will be saved.
Matthew 10:19-22 CEB
Father thank You for today. As I sit and think about my savior Jesus Christ, and his message to his disciples, I think about my ability to be a committed follower. Father please strengthen me. Give me the courage to push past my fears, and to stand tall in my convictions. Help me Father. I want to be a better student, a better steward, a better soldier for You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
We all want and expect loyalty from others, especially family and friends, but how loyal are we to God and Jesus? How loyal are we when it comes to standing firm in our convictions in the name of Christ? Do we let the world know our religious and spiritual beliefs or do we save that broadcast for our visits to church, or when we’re around other “believers”?
If we understood that in our belief, Christ would speak through us, we would have the confidence to open our mouths and hearts, and share.
Questions of the Day
1. Describe a moment when you felt torn between ‘speaking’ and remaining silent. What did you eventually do, and how did you feel after?
