“Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind. He said: Who is this who obscures My counsel with ignorant words? Get ready to answer Me like a man; when I question you, you will inform Me. Where were you when I established the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.
Have you ever in your life commanded the morning or assigned the dawn its place, so it may seize the edges of the earth and shake the wicked out of it?
Light is withheld from the wicked, and the arm raised in violence is broken.
Have you comprehended the extent of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this. Where is the road to the home of light? Do you know where darkness lives,
Don’t you know? You were already born; you have lived so long!
Do you know the laws of heaven? Can you impose its authority on earth?
Can you send out lightning bolts, and they go? Do they report to you: “Here we are”? Who put wisdom in the heart or gave the mind understanding?”
Job 38:1-4, 12-13, 15, 18-19, 21, 33, 35-36 HCSB
Father forgive me if I ever question You. You know that it is my ignorance and fear temporarily consuming me. I know that I can never fully understand what You do and why You do things. I apologize if ever I offended or offend You. Amen.
Whoa…I don’t think that Job was expecting this response from God. God wants to know how Job could possibly ever bring his mind and mouth to question Him, when Job is simply a mere mortal without authority.
This would be what one could call (back in the 1990s) a verbal “chin check” on Job. God’s response definitely brings things into perspective when you look at things through His lens. We forget that He already sees through ours.
