Reflection

The Amplified version of today’s scripture reads:

Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts.” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭AMP‬‬

I don’t think we can ever grow full of God’s Word. Each day we face an issue, battle, problem, opportunity, and situation where His Word reinforces, makes sense, solidifies, rectifies, answers, corrects, magnifies, or highlights something that we need to see, hear, or experience—something that a day or more before, we probably never noticed or fully made sense of.

People who turn from God and His Word are only demonstrating their flawed understanding of what they expect God to be, to give, to represent in their lives.

Our human flaw places conditions on our relationship with God, one-sided, where we want all but don’t feel we should give much in return. We want to dictate the sacrifice and the weight of our yoke. We feel that our lives should be free of adversity, disease should come to the sinner, and death should only come to the very old (who have lived long lives and are “ready to go”) and the very cruel (who don’t deserve to walk this earth). But the moment a baby or young child is ripped from our arms, or our spouse gone many years too soon—God’s name is cursed. How is Christ dwelling in us if we curse our Father? When we curse our Creator, we curse ourselves.

What goodness can you bring out of that pain? Whose life can you positively impact after healing from the loss of your child and/or spouse? How much love can you spread after feeling like it all drained from your body?

When you turn the “negative” into a positive, look around and see God…then praise Him!
