Natasha’s Daily Scripture, Prayer, and Reflection for 8.30.16

Scripture

Proverbs 16:28

Prayer                                                                                                                                                           Father please steer me away from troublemakers and gossip. If the words I speak don’t lead to a positive resolution, then I should remain silent. If the actions of others can lead me towards trouble, then keep me far away. Please provide me with the insight to see the troublemakers intent, so that I don’t get caught up in their web of drama. I humbly pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection                                                                                                                                                Think about every fight you have ever witnessed or taken part in, they were always started by troublemakers. Fights are always started by people looking for trouble. They seek out drama because their life isn’t exciting to them without chaos. Gossiping can destroy friendships and even families. Talking behind other people’s backs is something we were taught as children not to do, yet as adults, we do it almost daily. Gossip has become the norm, but have we ever considered how our gossip could harm others?

A pastor at a church I used to regularly attend said in a Sunday sermon that, “if your words aren’t the truth and don’t bring people together, then you shouldn’t speak them,” or something along those lines. I’ve tried to remember those words over the past five years. It’s difficult to not share ‘juicy’ news that you hear about someone else, but we need to consider how we would feel if that news being shared was instead about us? We don’t do well with other people talking about us, why don’t we walk the walk? You never know if one day the person you are gossiping to is also a troublemaker, just waiting to start a fight. So keep praying to God about this. I know I am.
