Scripture

John 16:33

Prayer

Father I pray for peace within myself, within my home, within my family, and along my journey. Help me to find peace even in chaos and conflict. Help me to see the Light even in darkness. Steady me through storms. Let me be in this world but not walk as though I’m of this world, steer me from the worldly trappings and the grasp of the enemy that waits. Strengthen me Father. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection

We look at Jesus and who He is but we don’t look at the tribulations and trials that He had to face along His journey. We don’t know of the times before He connected with the disciples. We don’t know of those moments alone when went to pray and deal with the issues that were bothering Him. We forget about those moments when He cried out to God in anguish. Jesus’ journey was about Him saving many as He overcame the trappings of the world that many of us fall victim to.

Ego, pride and greed destroyed and still destroys millions of people. Humbleness, humility, grace, contentment, and empathy are not easy steps to place our feet upon. It’s much ego to jump in ego, pride, and greed—none of which requires much thought or effort. You have to be open and moldable to be humble, empathetic, content, and graceful. Your walls cannot be up in those spaces, for walls block God’s loving light. That’s why there is always great darkness on the paths of ego, pride, and greed. They suck the life out of everything in their reach. They become a prison and the longer you remain the more you are destroyed.

It’s funny how frustrated we become with people who seem to always smile and have something positive to say. We’re disgusted by them and assume that it’s all for show, because how could anyone be so happy, joyful, and at peace with all of the chaos around them? We need to pray for healing of this sickness that plagues us, for what we should want more than anything is to be like those people who see and embrace the light in the darkness, who are hopeful through the worst of times, who choose happiness, joy, and peace over pain and depression. They would rather sing and praise than cry and sulk. It is not them who have a problem, it is us who don’t realize that our normal is not normal. They are enlightened as we walk around ignorantly blind and not knowing it.

John 16:31

Prayer

Father this molding process does not feel good. I guess it shouldn’t. There are moments of what appears to be reprieve, like the water being added to the clay, and then as time progresses the friction intensifies. I know that You are preparing me Father and I apologize for whining, complaining, and crying. I apologize for being weak when You need me to be strong. I apologize for doubting when You need me believe and have faith that I’m never out of Your sight and reach. I apologize for focusing on the temporary and physical when You’re trying to get me to focus on the eternal and spiritual.

It’s clear that my fear and doubt reveal that I still don’t fully believe, because if I truly did, then I would not crawl on my belly in fear but rather walk upright in faith and conviction. Father thank You for loving me enough to patiently wait as I belly crawl, knowing that one day I will reach my feet and stand tall as Your reflection. Thank You Father. I love you!

Reflection

How exhausting and exhausted Jesus had to be to teach and heal to those who doubted Him the entire time they witnessed God working through Him. We limit our minds when we obsess over the finite and physical, matter and material. The only thing we can conceive to be everywhere is air but at some point we would find reason to doubt a space somewhere. We say we believe God’s power to create all things large and small, then doubt that one of His creations is the person that prophets said would come to bring salvation. We sure are a difficult crowd. The rest of God’s creatures believe, yet the ones He created to govern over all of the creatures don’t believe. How ironic is that?

Interesting enough, this all took place more than two thousand years ago and even with all of the Bible thumping, hallelujah yelling, tongue speaking, and new age prophecy plot twists people ramble on and on about—if Jesus was walking amongst us right now we would treat Him the same way (or far worse) than He was treated over two thousand years ago. I will laugh at you hysterically until I pass out if you think otherwise.

We’re hypocrites who think we have it figured out and are far more superior and intellectually inclined than the morons of Jesus’ time who should’ve realized who He was.

Yet look at the moronic things we do and say still, more than two thousand years later…

We have so-called Christians killing others in the name of Christ, totally ignoring God’s commandments. We have so-called Christians shooting up and bombing family planning clinics, killing people in the clinics because they are protesting against abortion—how can you be “pro-life” when you’re killing people? Scratching my head still hasn’t helped me answer that question.

We have so-called Christians self-ordaining themselves as judges over the rest of us, declaring which of us are going to hell and how, yet these same judgmental people have repeatedly broken both God and Jesus’ commands. The hypocrisy of it all is unnerving.

What cracks me up are the so-called Christians who will spend hours at church praising God and Jesus, and then leave the church premises (if they even make it out of the parking lot) and in moments they are cursing and giving someone the middle finger because the other driver or pedestrian made a mistake. Oh yes, that’s the Christian way, isn’t it?

We have religious leaders denouncing homosexuality (and saying there’s a special place in hell for these sinners) while they have their stash of kiddie and/or adult porn hidden under their bed or in a box in their basement or attic. Then when they are caught, they want to cry out about being “weak” and “a victim of satan”, and blah blah blah. The same thing when we have these high and mighty, I’m-so-righteous types who get caught cheating on their spouses. Same weak excuses yet they judged so harshly others who committed the same or lesser offenses.

Don’t they know that those who judge others are judged even harsher?

Jesus said that whomever had not sinned could cast the first stone upon the woman that these so-called righteous men called a whore and adulteress. All of those sinners had to put their rocks down and slide their sinning behinds back down the street. Honestly, that’s what we need more of right now. Stop casting stones at other people like you’re living a sin-free life. Jesus said that even our thoughts were not free of sin, so by thinking something lustful, vile, or violent was no different than committing the act—because the mind is a powerful thing and the space where the enemy attacks us first and last.

People keep screaming “Jesus is coming!” and I keep saying to myself, “and what in the world would they do if and when He arrives?” because if there is an actual place called hell, I wouldn’t be surprised to see tons of so-called righteous folks stacked to the brim wondering how they got there. If Jesus walked amongst us today and His skin and hair looked much different than how you were taught he would look, would that change your opinion of Him? Would you believe it was Him or would you doubt Him and be quick to say, “string him up!“.

You’re not really ready for Jesus to openly walk amongst us. Work on yourself and get your mind and heart right. If you have hate towards others then you can’t call yourself a Christian. If you think you know who is going to hell and why, you definitely need to look in the mirror and ask yourself who are you to make those judgments and declarations, and how would Jesus address you if He saw and heard the things that came out of your mouth.

If you truly believe in Jesus and God, then your walk, talk, and thoughts should be more Christ-like, and not just during church hours. And if you’re still a work in progress like me, then the last thing you need to do is be a hypocrite and point your self-righteous phony fingers at other people—you definitely aren’t carving out a space for yourself in a place called heaven that way!

John 16:29-30

Prayer

Father I want to thank You for today, another day of life, another opportunity to do better and love harder, and another day to practice obedience and grace. Father I pray for discernment to see clearly what You need me to see and when You need me to see it. I pray for a heart that is warm and receptive to others love, and one that does not turn cold even towards my enemy. Father help me to free myself from the paralysis of fear. Help me to stop questioning and doubting You and those that You send to help me. Help me to hear Your voice above all others and to clearly distinguish Yours from the enemy’s. You know what I’m going through Father. You know what I’m struggling with. You know the pain and frustration. Help me to push through it all. Help me to be okay with walking through this alone or seemingly. I humbly pray to You as a believer and follower of Your son, Christ Jesus. Amen.

Reflection

After all that they witnessed, heard, and even accomplished with their Teacher, the disciples still doubted Jesus. Then at this point they proclaim they are enlightened, believe fully, and never have reason to question Him again because now they believe He is who He says He is, who the scriptures described. Yet interesting enough, for those of you who already know the end of this soap opera, this knowledge and understanding was still not enough to empower them to stand by Jesus when He was arrested. They denied knowing Him and having any relationship with Him.

Now, we can argue that by denying Him it fulfilled prophecy, which is something that Jesus was adamant about fully respecting. We can look at the big picture and say that Matthew and John would not have authored their books that we read today, if they stood up and acknowledged they were Jesus’ disciples—because they would have been crucified beside Him. But imagine our walk, our journey. Imagine those who surround you don’t actually believe a word that you say, and this continues for many years despite all of the proof you provide, and it’s not until they are about to lose you that they believe, but even then it’s not enough. Think of the people from your past and even those in your present who have or are sabotaging your progress, or trying to with great effort.

Imagine how lonely Jesus felt for years, the burden He carried, the knowledge and wisdom that He had but couldn’t share freely and fully with others. Imagine how torn He was knowing that His own family, His flesh and blood, only saw Him as Jesus the carpenter, because how could they ever fathom that He was indeed the Messiah the prophets spoke of many years before His birth. Imagine how He felt knowing exactly which of His disciples would betray Him and how they would do it. Imagine how many times He wanted to give up and tell God to choose someone else to do the job.

Now compare your journey and struggles to Jesus. Does that put things into perspective? You think you have it hard. Go ahead and laugh because you know it’s pitifully funny don’t you? Yeah I’m laughing right along with you because my pity party looks mighty stupid right about now!

God has placed us on a path and along our journey there will be people that we meet, some will join us for a short period of time while others will walk beside or behind us for an extended period of time. They may or may not believe you and believe in you, some may even attempt to derail your plans, but don’t focus on that. Focus on putting one foot in front of the other and obediently doing and saying what God tells you to do each day. Sometimes our legacy is not seen clearly while we are here, but only in our transition does the mark we left behind actually have great impact.

Focus on doing your job, living your life fully and without regrets, and doing enough good that leaves behind a legacy that extends exponentially longer than the actual years you lived. God has everything already mapped out, He’s just waiting on you!

John 16:28

Prayer

Father thank You for the gift of connectedness. I remain connected to You as distance and time is not relevant because I come from You, and with You I will always remain. Father please touch me as a reminder whenever I fear being alone or lost, that way I will remember that I’m never lost or alone because You are always beside me protecting me. Help me to focus my eyes so that even in darkness I can see Your light. There’s nothing that I could want more than being connected to and loved by You. Thank You for loving me Father.

Reflection

We are here for a short time but we’re always with our Father. We have assignments to complete in this level of existence and when we have done what God needs us to do, we move on to the next level of existence with new experiences, to learn what we must.

Jesus walked the path as the prophecies proclaimed. He did what He was instructed to do. He walked where and when He was told. He healed through word, touch, and thought. He taught, nurtured, and forgave others. He showed us the way. Once His job was complete He prepared His disciples for the time when He would no longer physically walk beside them, and He told them what was expected of them and how society would treat them for being dedicated servants to Him.

Through His journey He proved that there is no death, just an absence from the human body, as we transition to our new role. He proclaimed that our relationship with God is one-on-one, no mediator in the form of priest, pastor, or bishop is needed, just our conversation with our Father-Mother. Jesus showed us and it is up to us to follow the path, precepts, and commands He outlined and reinforced.

You can strengthen your connection to God, through prayer, praise, worship, and consistent obedience. Speak to Him. He’s always listening and watching.

John 16:21

Prayer

Father I’m going through birthing pains and I know that they are temporary. Please calm my fears and doubts, reduce my anxiety, and comfort me in Your reassurance. I know that through this something great will come and I pray for the patience, strength, and courage to endure. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Reflection

There’s the old saying of “no pain no gain” and although it no longer applies to lifting weights and working out, it still applies to everything else in life. Through our pain we grow, we learn, we expand our thinking, and hopefully we learn some valuable lessons.

As a woman may scream and holler through the sheer pain and horror of labor, moments after delivery the relief takes over as she stares into the eyes of the being she has birthed. It was all worth it. The pain is no longer a focus. She is no longer concerned with what once was or what she went through to get to where she is. The months that she served as a vessel for another life is no longer a measurement of time that she is obsessed with. The minutes or hours of labor are no longer her concern. She is just relieved to be holding in her arms the very thing she has waited months to see and embrace.

In life we go through long periods of time of carrying a temporary load and then we go through an extended period of time where we labor to deliver the desired results we seek. Sometimes we labor and we’re not sure of what we will deliver. We just know that it is painful and sometimes we believe it’s unbearable. But God keeps telling us to just breathe and focus, and He will carry us through every contraction and delay. Once we deliver, the pain and discomfort that we endured will subside. Just know that whatever you’re going through right now, it is temporary. You will deliver.

God is preparing you for one of two births—either molding the “crowning” phase and getting you ready for a great push, or He’s preparing you for a steady extraction where your ability to remain calm and steady is required to prevent from going into shock and risking what He’s birthing from you. Both births require your active participation. They require that you have your mind right and that you trust the process.

God has something great planned for you.

No pain no gain.

John 16:13

Prayer

Father You already know the trouble I get myself into when I don’t listen and obey You, when my impatience causes me to rush and not wait on You, and when my fear clouds my thinking and doubt blocks out Your words. Father I pray for the courage to get up and walk, to trust that You already know the outcome and that Your love for me is greater than anything I could ever imagine—so You would never subject me to anything I couldn’t handle nor would You subject me to anything that would harm me, Your creation. I want to be released from these mental and physical shackles that suppress and oppress me, so that I can be free to see, hear, and experience all that You desire for me. In Jesus’ name I humbly and passionately pray. Amen.

Reflection

God is the Source of Life, Love, Truth, and Light. We are never blind or blindsided when we live fully in life and love, always seeking out truth and light. But even in darkness we should not fear the unknown because God is still there, guiding us to the light, His Light. Trust each forward step you take. Doubt is paralyzing and keeps you trapped in darkness, where you cannot see and where you will ultimately begin to imagine what is not there—a presence greater than God—and that is humanly, spiritually, and scientifically impossible.

Don’t let the enemy trick you and convince you that it can produce results with greater impact than your Father-Mother’s. Don’t you let the enemy convince you that you are not deserving of what God has in store for you. The enemy thrives off of robbing your dreams and tearing down your faith. Like homeowners and store owners seal up their properties during high storms, block those weak areas in your mind and life that the enemy can penetrate.

God sends us messages and blessings through people, angels, and experiences. The Truth comes to us—trust the message and follow where God guides you, knowing that not everyone in your circle will be joining you now or at any point. That cannot be your concern. Just walk and know that God has all of the details figured out. He knew you before you were conceived and He already knows how and when you will transition from the here and now in this human body, to the next level of existence. You are to focus on the time you have right now between those two milestones. Will you live fully seeking, embracing, and speaking Truth? Or will you waste your life paralyzed by fear and doubt?

God gives us choices. Either way, He knows what our lives will look like when the “buzzer” sounds on the “game clock”.

Prayer

I hear You Father. Guide me Lord. Free me sin, entitlement, and judgment of and from others. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Reflection

We don’t know if the Comforter came after Jesus’ ascension or not. We don’t know if He convicted the world about sin, righteousness and judgment. Or maybe all the turmoil that we have been experiencing has been a culmination of this conviction upon us. We don’t really know. But what we do know is that we have a choice to live our lives as we have been commanded or we can stray and live as we desire, of the flesh, weakened and exposed. Servants of God or slaves of the enemy. Our choice.

John 16:7

Prayer

Father I know that You have a plan, You always do, and to question You or attempt to figure out Your way is pointless. So I will humbly follow and trust Your guidance.

Reflection

Jesus shared with His disciples the next steps. He gave them ample notice of what would come, what to expect, and how to conduct themselves if they truly desired a seat next to Him. Left behind is a guide for us to use, follow, model, and live by. We can either discard it and deal with things as they come or we can embrace it and prepare for anything and everything that can come our way—knowing that we are blessed and saved through Him. The hamster wheel life has to be tiring, why not choose a different path and see what riches life has in store for you.

John 16:1

Prayer

Father please keep me from stumbling, and if I do stumble please catch me or soften my fall. Then give me the strength and courage to get back up and walk forward again. In Jesus’ name I humbly pray to You today and each day. Amen.

Reflection

Jesus explained to His disciples that all that He had shared up to that day, and that day in particular was to prepare them and to help them not stumble in their discipleship after His ascension.

We read and study these words so that we can learn how not to stumble. But if we don’t read and study then we’re bound to fall, and fall hard.

John 15:23-25

Prayer

Father there will always be disbelievers and haters. I’m grateful for my relationship with You and I’m grateful for the life that You have given me. I’m grateful for life’s lessons and for the people that You have placed in my life, even those who didn’t have the best intentions for me. I’ve learned a lot in this short time I’ve been here and I’m grateful for these experiences. I pray for many more sunrises, sunsets, cleansing breaths, laughs, and even moments when I shed tears. I look forward to what the future holds and my place in it. I want to do my part to help build Your Kingdom and reflect You as best as I can for as long as You allow. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection

If you think you have issues with haters, consider what Jesus went through, and consider that now more than two thousand years after His ascension, there are people who still hate on Him. Sadly, people hated and hate Him for absolutely no reason. Can you say that? Now imagine God’s experience with the human race. There are millions who don’t believe in Him and millions who curse Him. Can you relate? Not even possible.

Now look at your life again. Alright, go ahead and laugh. You have it easy and you know it. Thank God for sparing you from the hate and foolishness.

Father I’m grateful and will be eternally grateful for the sacrifices of Your Son, Jesus Christ, for in His obedience He gave His human life in order to reveal to the rest of Your children the eternal life that awaits us. He loved us but loved You more, and through that love I am here and this experience is priceless. Thank You for all that I have and all that I am, and most importantly, thank You for the gift of Your Son—my direct link to You! Praising You and Your gifts, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection

Jesus loved us so much that He sacrificed what the vast majority of us are holding on for dear life. I can honestly tell you that I wouldn’t be so obedient and loving to sacrifice my life for millions of people I don’t know, and in a way that was so painful both physically and mentally. The denigration was horrific. The betrayal by His disciples was anticipated but still crippling. Watching people He healed spit upon Him, throw stones, and yell “crucify him” over and over—that had to cut deep. It only proves how strong, brave, obedient, great, and wondrous Jesus is and why He was chosen to be our Savior. He loves us. Show your love by being loving towards others, serve the least of God’s children fully and without question, and do whatever it takes to protect your heart and mind from the enemy’s attacks.

Scripture

John 15:4

Prayer

Father I pray to remain nestled in Your arms and walking on the path that You created– that You had Jesus to leave footprints for me to follow. I don’t ever want to be separated from You. I never want to disappoint You. I never want to do anything that would celebrate the enemy and dishonor You. I am only me because of You. I can only be because of You. Protect me. Guide me. I love You Father. Faithfully Yours.

Reflection

The leaf, branch, and petal can not survive without being connected to it’s source. It doesn’t matter how much you water it, cascade light upon it, eventually it will wither and die. We are just like the leaf, branch, and petal. We need our Lord and Savior to be the Wayshower. We need our Heavenly Father, because He is our Source, He is our Creator and the only reason we breathe today. Don’t stray too far or you may find yourself plucked and disconnected from your lifeline.
