Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

Because of our unique design and connection with God, whether you want to admit it or not, you know if you have been walking with a clean heart or one filled with negative tendencies influenced by the enemy. You know if you have been doing right by the Lord or if you have been more concerned with having things your way. You know if you have been negative, unloving, deceitful, misleading, manipulative, conniving, or untrustworthy. Just as you know, if you have been seeking and attracting drama to your life. We must remember that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, so the Spirit is always our compass and thermometer. We choose to follow the Spirit or the flesh. But don’t beat yourself up for being weak and choosing the flesh.

Here’s the thing, the enemy wants you to walk around with bags of guilt and shame. The enemy wants you to verbally and emotionally beat yourself up for not being perfect and for falling short of the ideal. The enemy tried tempting Jesus, so why wouldn’t he try to tempt you away from following Jesus?

The tricks of satan convince you to pick up bags of shame, guilt, entitlement, pessimism, doubt, and mediocrity. I say, follow Jesus’ lead and drop those bags. Don’t pick up that mess. Whatever you’re holding onto, drop it now. God doesn’t want you carrying around that nonsense. He doesn’t want your heart and mind tormented.

The enemy tricks you into believing that God is so disgusted with you, and that’s why your life isn’t perfect, that somehow God is ignoring your prayers and maliciously punishing you for your scandals and shortcomings. That’s a lie.

God isn’t blindsided or shocked by what you have said or done in the past. He knew the choices you would make before you made them. He gave you the freedom of choice because He loves you. He has already forgiven you. He’s waiting on you to forgive yourself. The Bible teaches us that forgiveness is essential to life. Mercy and grace are God’s ways; persecution and perpetual punishment are satan’s ways. Forgiveness goes against the enemy’s plan of attack. Forgiveness heals and steers us toward restoration.

You must surrender all to God to destroy the enemy’s plan and be released from sin’s grip. The enemy needs your heart to be cluttered and your life chaotic. The enemy needs you to hold on to the pains of the past, to think that the victories in your distant history were your best and brightest days. God needs you to understand that the past is not your responsibility to reconcile, your present is a gift to be cherished, and your best and brightest days are still ahead of you.

Let the past remain where it is. Let the dead be buried to rest. Only God knows what’s in your heart, and only He can make it clean. Only He can renew the right spirit within you.

Get your spirit and heart right by seeking out God. Ask for a renewed life. Look deep inside and ask yourself if your current lifestyle is the way you want to live your life forever, or do you want better? The God who sent His son Yeshua to save you and me from the lies of sin, disease, and death wants us to have the best.

It’s about choice. We choose to live a certain way and treat ourselves and others a certain way. We choose what we consume. We choose to entertain thoughts and turn them into actions. We even choose to be entitled, expecting God to make things right in our lives when we haven’t made any positive strides toward improving our lives. We choose to take in the toxic and expect God to make it pure. That’s satan’s trickery at work. Rebuke it.

The enemy tempts us, but we choose to take the bait. We can’t blame the enemy for being what it has chosen to be and doing what it is driven to do. We can’t blame the enemy for our choices. You have options. Your discernment is your responsibility. Your choices are your responsibility. And when you make the wrong choice and take responsibility for your actions, you must repent, forgive yourself, and realign. Don’t harbor on it. Let it go.

This relationship with God was never designed to be one-sided, with Him doing everything and fixing everything that you chose to do without Him. He wants you to choose Him. He wants you to choose your relationship with Him. He wants you to choose the things, people, and ideas that He has chosen for you. He wants you to choose you and what you were designed to be and do in this world. Satan wants your worship and devotion, so you look and act like the devil and not like God.

What will you choose?

There is no other way to bliss, joy, and peace than through God. There is no other viable solution than to surrender and follow His lead.

Do you believe that God has forgiven you of your past decisions? Do you believe that God does not keep a running inventory of every sin you have committed? Do you believe that the accusatory voice that you hear is satan’s and not God’s? Do you believe that God can provide for your needs? Do you believe He can heal you from your pain and the dis-ease that torments you?

Are you ready to stop having a conditional relationship with Him? Are you ready to live a life of empowerment? Are you ready to live on purpose, running towards your destiny? Then ask, without wasting time with doubt or worry, and watch God work in and through you.

He will clean your heart and renew the right spirit in you. Go to Him!

Father, I want my heart, mind, and spirit to be right by You. Clean my heart of the clutter I created. Pull out the pain, hurt, anger, envy, shame, and jealousy. Help me to see and embrace the lessons, and move forward.

Remove from me the desire to want what I don’t need simply so I can feel good for short bursts of time. Renew my spirit so that I may walk like Your son Jesus. Tune my hearing to hear You clearly, above all others. I want to always discern and follow Your voice. Turn me towards Your ways.

No more lies, games, manipulation, fear, hate, and confusion. Let me see Your greatness and let that guide me where I need to be daily. Leave what I did and what I experienced yesterday in the past. Let my yesterdays and yesteryears be my past, and let me walk with my head high in the present. In Your Name I humbly pray. Amen.

And with that family, I pray that you are blessed, that you see and embrace your blessings, and that you are a blessing to others.
