Scripture

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

Proverbs 16:9

Reflection

We can plan our lives as much as we want, but if we don’t realize and defer to the fact that only God establishes the steps in that plan, we will never truly get anywhere in life. It’s not that we don’t have choices. We have plenty. It’s the understanding that God makes it possible for you to choose, to take on life’s adventures, to even go to the places He and His messengers warn you to steer clear of, and just as quickly as you abort that mission, it is God that provides you a way out.

Our hearts provide the emotions and feelings that fuel and solidify the mind’s thoughts. The heart provides the connectors that the mind uses to map out the course. But the Source that makes any and all of it possible is God. Even in our disobedience, God makes it possible for us to see, experience, and learn why our ways are not His and how our lack of discernment, or just pure obstinance, is the reason we chose to follow the enemy’s voice and directives over God’s. The mind takes in or produces a thought, but the heart is where it marinates. And Who created the mind and heart, allowing them to function? God.

We need to learn to defer to our Heavenly Father to ensure that we are aligned and well-prepared for the journey. It’s a relationship, a partnership, a marriage —like no other. What He provides, no one and nothing else can. Let’s not be dismissive of it but instead, let’s celebrate and honor what we have with the God who loves us so much that He constantly sends messengers and other servants to aid us along the way.

Prayer

Father, You always find a way to show me when my mind and Your path are not aligned, when my heart and Yours are not in sync. Let me work with You to plan my course. I want to do better to understand, appreciate, respect, and wait patiently for You to reveal to me and help me to see and walk the steps that I need to take, to experience all that I need, and all that my heart desires, for Your glory. I thank You for what You have done, are doing, and will do in my life. I am grateful for Your love and our relationship. I love You, Father. Amen.

And with that family, I pray that you are blessed, that you see and embrace your blessings, and that you are a blessing to others.

Lovingly,

Natasha
