Natasha’s Daily Scripture, Prayer, and Reflection for 2.28.13

Then children were brought to Him so He might put His hands on them and pray. But the disciples rebuked them. Then Jesus said, “Leave the children alone, and don’t try to keep them from coming to Me, because the kingdom of heaven is made up of people like this.” After putting His hands on them, He went on from there.

Matthew 19:13-15 HCSB

Pray
Let me always see in children Your light, purity, and love. Let me always be reminded that there is wisdom from their mouths, and to not be rushed to silence them. Let me take time to listen and hear them clearly. May I never be too busy for a child in need of love, encouragement, advice, guidance, or protection. Amen.

Reflection
To be seen and not heard can no longer be our relationship with children. God pours in them so much wisdom and ideas, with a fearlessness that we try to reclaim. Children see things in ways that many of us have forgotten. Instead of being quick to force silence upon them, consider engaging them in healthy dialogue.

Consider this, how do you expect a child who spends their time being seen and not heard, to feel comfortable opening up and talking to you in time of need? An abused or bullied child may feel as though they can’t come to you because there have been so many times when you hushed, rushed, ignored, and chastised them in the past. Are you comfortable with your child turning to friends or someone else (other than you) for comfort, guidance, protection, and advice? Think about it.

Lovingly,

Natasha
