Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
It is easy to take the wages of our labor and immediately use them to pay bills and take care of necessities, and niceties. I get it. I do it too. The first of the two verses above says that we’re to honor God with our wealth and the first of our harvest.
Some people tithe in church, others donate to charity, others honor God by buying food or providing money to the homeless. Some of us just keep paying the bills and buying things we want. And there are those who can only pay on some bills not all, and they don’t have the luxury of buying for personal gratification. God knows each of our situations. He knows our heart and intentions. Speak to Him about how He wants you to honor and acknowledge Him.
I would like to focus on the real intention, the underlying but obvious sentiment of these verses. Those crops, our wages, are only possible because of God. We should honor Him, for without Him we have nothing. Only with Him does our wealth grow. Our cup runneth over because of His doing, not ours.
Putting God First
The busyness of life can sometimes throw us off track, consuming us with human priorities, as we quickly forget our spiritual ones.
Father, I have placed other things before You. Today I didn’t start my day with You as my center and top priority. I got distracted by circumstances and people. I apologize for losing focus.
Have a blessed day!
