Seek Him
Today’s message comes from Day 114 of my book Seek Him, Volume 1: Testing Your Spiritual Comfort Zone. The theme is “Stop Comparing.”
Scripture
Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. All who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God.
— 1 John 4:11-15 NLT
Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.
— 2 Corinthians 10:12 ESV
Reflection
Today, I share two Bible verses. The first speaks of God’s love and how it lives within us and is expressed by us. God is within us, and we carry the responsibility of choosing each day to either live in the Spirit or the flesh. God does not compare Himself to other gods, feeling inadequate, so why do we compare ourselves to other people? The same Creator of you made me, and He does not make mistakes. Why do we compare our circumstances to other people’s situations? Be grateful for the life that you have because it’s yours to live. You did nothing to get it or keep it, for it is a gift. Don’t squander it.
These daily experiences come with lessons to gain knowledge, and when applied we gain wisdom. You could be in a worse situation, and you know there are plenty of people facing issues that you could never fathom. There is always someone who has it worse than you, so humble yourself and give praise to God for His loving grace. What is meant for you is yours and will be yours. No one said it would be easy or happen as we would like. But God gives us what we need. Getting what you want is a bonus, be grateful, not entitled. We are toughened and strengthened by the journey. We learn to respect the ruggedness and thereby appreciate those moments of smooth, seamless passage.
Prayer
Thank You, Father. Thank You for all that I am and all that I have. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
