“‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’”
I don’t merely want to say “I want to be more like Jesus” I want to commit to living my life more like Jesus; being loving and respectful to all, regardless of how they treat me; praying for people even when they refuse to pray for themselves or me; and thinking first of our Heavenly Father before speaking or acting upon my thoughts. I believe that if we think of God before we act upon our fears we can learn to overcome them.
We cannot thrive in life living just by intent and no true commitment. We cannot thrive in life without the priorities of God first, family second, and career third. This is not Burger King, we can’t have it our way—so we can’t substitute something for first, second, or third place and believe that life will bring endless spiritual and financial wealth.
We have to check our hypocrisy. Walk the walk or just sit down.
Father, I don’t want to be a hypocrite. I don’t want to speak from my lips something I am not committed to in my heart and mind. I want to be fully committed to You and Jesus, walking in Your light and following Jesus’s teachings— not the world’s. Strengthen me Lord. Realign me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
