Let’s dig into the story of Samson, before and after his entanglement with the Philistines and Delilah. We’re going to use Judges 16:1-2, 4-5 as the go-between as we quickly explore Judges 13-15 and see the tie-ins to our own lives. I also have six questions for you to ponder and answer at the end.

So, come break bread with me for a few minutes!

Scripture

Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute and went to bed with her. When the Gazites heard that Samson was there, they surrounded the place and waited in ambush for him all that night at the city gate. While they were waiting quietly, they said, “Let us wait until dawn; then we will kill him.”

Some time later, he fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the Sorek Valley. The Philistine leaders went to her and said, “Persuade him to tell you where his great strength comes from, so we can overpower him, tie him up, and make him helpless. Each of us will then give you 1,100 pieces of silver.”

Judges 16:1-2, 4-5 HCSB

Reflection

There’s so many lessons to be learned from the story of Samson and those involved with him. Samson’s ego and arrogance clouded his discernment. He allowed himself to be exposed. Delilah allowed herself to not only be bribed but to betray Samson so she could receive the bribe. She didn’t realize she was trading coins for her soul and that betraying Samson was also betraying God. She didn’t realize that she tore away at two relationships, one with Samson and, most importantly, the one she had with God.

Samson didn’t see that others were plotting against him. Which is strange as he had been dueling with them and avoiding capture by the Philistines for years. But he didn’t know not to trust Delilah, a Philistine woman from the Sorek Valley.

Although an angel declared his importance before he was born, Samson didn’t value his gifts from God enough to protect them at all costs. The Philistines did not know they were doing the work of the enemy; they were too busy plotting, planning, and praying that their god Dagon would bless them. Satan was busy at work.

When we look at this story, it does not start with Samson and Delilah. Somehow we romanticize Samson and rationalize his prior behaviors to justify our disdain for Delilah and the Philistines. We forget what led up to this travesty. Go back and read Judges 13-15 for context.

Let’s do a quick recap. The Israelites were acting a fool again, so God allowed them to be ruled by the Philistines for approximately 40 years. During this time, Samson’s born and grows up, with his parents knowing what God has proclaimed over his life, thanks to a message delivered through an angel. Samson marries his first wife, a Philistine, and decides to con her people out of the bulk of their possessions by giving them an impossible riddle to solve.

The men freak out when they realize they can’t solve it, and they threaten Samson’s wife that if she doesn’t get the answer from Samson, they will kill her and her family by burning them to death. She succeeds after several days of crying and begging Samson while not telling him why she desperately wanted the answer. When the men tell Samson the answer, he knows she told them, but he never knew why he didn’t ask, and she didn’t say.

Fast forward, his dad gave his wife away to a groomsman; Samson is upset, so he seeks revenge on the people by burning their crops and vineyards; they get their revenge by burning to death his wife and her family. Now it’s a tit-for-tat revenge fest. This leads to him eventually meeting Delilah, another Philistine woman, and we’re back to this part of the story with Delilah being bribed with money to find out yet another riddle tied to Samson. We know that she betrays Samson, for greed, not out of fear of death like his first wife.

With all of the dramatics, there’s a lot to learn from this. But let’s just say, protect yourself. Protect your heart and your mind. Your actions do have consequences. Ego, pride, and greed are traps. Some things money can’t buy. If you aren’t willing to die for it, reconsider doing it.

QUESTIONS

  1. How does Samson’s story relate to your life?
  2. What can you learn from Samson?
  3. What can you learn from his first wife?
  4. In what ways have you been like Delilah?
  5. In what ways have you been like the Philistine leaders, looking for someone’s weakness to attack, plotting, and planning to take someone down?
  6. In what ways has your desire for revenge had an undesired outcome?

Prayer

Father protect me. Protect my heart, mind, body, spirit, and soul. Protect me from myself, from the enemy, and from those that the enemy would use against me with the goal to discredit You, to tear away at our relationship. Father, enhance my discernment to see and hear what is needed, and the courage to release things over to You to handle.

Please enhance my strengths and leverage them to counter my weaknesses, so that even under attack, I can not only endure, but I can be victorious. I come to You humbly, praying in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

And with that family, I pray that you are blessed, that you see and embrace your blessings, and that you are a blessing to others.

Scripture

With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it.

Judges 16:16

Reflection

I don’t know about you, but I detest nagging. Whether it’s a woman or a man, it doesn’t matter. Something changes in the person’s voice that is so annoying. I’m sure that from their viewpoint, they’re thinking that they wouldn’t have to nag if they weren’t forced to repeat themselves because other people won’t answer them, keep dropping the ball, or not doing their part.

I think it’s more about the energy and tone of the incessant requests and that they’re usually layered with a lot of snarkiness, eye-rolling, and unnecessary body language that screams louder than words—which makes you want to clobber them with dozens of huge water balloons filled with multi-colored slime.

For hours.

Visualize that.

Not Christ-like, huh? But I made you smile and possibly laugh! And consider this, there’s really no room for nagging in a slime balloon fight! Imagine you and them soaking wet and covered in layers of colors from top to bottom. It’s better than most of the alternatives we choose. Well, let’s get back to the nagging and see what else we can do to address this situation.

OH NO, YOU DIDN’T, DELILAH!

Let’s look at this Bible verse. It’s about Samson and Delilah and little Miss. Delilah wasn’t nagging Samson to fix the roof of their house. No, she was plotting and planning against him to get her hands on his secret so she could tell the Philistine rulers who promised to pay her for the intel. Delilah didn’t think twice. She didn’t protest. She didn’t declare her love for Samson. Nope, she was thinking about what she was going to do with the shekels they promised. They promised to give her 1,100 shekels per man. I don’t know how many men were there, but it had to be more than a few. Delilah sold out Samson, and the only way she achieved her goal was to nag him incessantly day after day. She tried to guilt-trip and shame him. She wore him down until he gave up.

Samson’s discernment wasn’t activated because he was distracted and confused by her constant bombardment. Delilah must have been one hot mama to Samson! There, the flesh outweighed the spirit. There are plenty of people who have had and may currently have a Delilah in their life. Maybe you have too. Maybe you live with one. Maybe, just maybe, you are the Delilah.

PAUSE FOR A MOMENT TO PONDER SOMETHING WITH ME…

Why didn’t Samson ever ask Delilah, “Why in the world do you keep asking me this question, Delilah? And why do you keep yelling that the Philistines are going to get me immediately after you tie me up?” I mean, wouldn’t you want to know why someone would ask about the source of your strength and how you can be tied and subdued?

Samson wasn’t the smartest dude, was he? Or is it a combination of also not giving Delilah much credit for her cunningness? He should’ve said, “I don’t know,” or “I get my strength from God, and only He can subdue me.” BAM! Either response would have shut Delilah up, about that matter, at least for a few weeks. Even though the easiest response would have been, “Delilah, I’m not telling you, so stop asking me. It has nothing to do with loving you or not. I just don’t want anyone to know, and that includes you. If you can’t accept that, then I don’t know what else to say.”

So how should we deal with nagging people or just people who carry around an energy that we could stand to not be around? A water balloon or slime balloon fight, maybe? If only it were that easy.

The time and energy you invest in negative or nagging people (and resolving nothing) could be better spent focusing on what God has planned for you. Just like positive energy waves, negative energy waves can latch on to you, but instead of lifting you up, it drains and eats away at you like poison. Don’t let Delilah wear you down!

Prayer

Father, I pray for peace and joy in my life; that I might come home to an environment free of drama, nagging, guilt trips, shame, clutter, and toxic energy. Whatever negativity that I face outside I want to leave it there. I pray that anyone in my home does the same. Father, be our buffer. In Your Name I pray. Amen.

Welcome to this new month. See it as a fresh start. It’s Day One…now do something positive in your life and lovingly put those energy-drainers in their rightful place. And with that family, I pray that you are blessed, that you see and embrace your blessings, and that you are a blessing to others. I love you all. Go out there and make today an awesome day! Don’t be a Delilah, and don’t fall under the pressure of a Delilah!

Scripture

They also failed to show any loyalty to the family of Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) in spite of all the good things he had done for them.

Judges 8:35

Reflection

Gideon did a lot of great things for the Israelites, but soon after he passed away, they stopped showing his family any loyalty, and they slid back to their old ways of thinking and living. They began worshipping another god, dismissing and forgetting the God that rescued them repeatedly.

That’s what backsliders do. Something changes in their life; rather than look at that setback or disappointment as something to learn from and then move forward, they sacrifice the entire landscape instead. It’s like destroying an entire house because one window broke or one door fell off the hinges.

The Israelites showed their character, lack of loyalty, unwillingness to be faithful, and faded gratitude. This is another example of conditional love.

We will always be dealt a lousy hand of cards in life. We can’t always get the winning hand. Stuff happens. It’s how we deal with the loss, with the stuff, that speaks volumes about us and how we see our relationship with God. Our character isn’t just defined in the good seasons. It’s also tested and defined in the rough seasons. We aren’t supposed to be faithful to God because of a particular place, person, or object that we associate with Him. We’re supposed to be faithful to Him because He’s never stopped being faithful to us. We’re to always remember Him because He’s always remembered us. We’re to love Him because every single day, He shows His love for us. He loved us before we knew life.

When you get clobbered or feel worn down, that’s the time to ramp up your praise for Him. Praise Him through the storm. Praise Him through the heartbreak.

Pray for discernment. Pray for the truth. Pray for strength. Pray for wisdom. Pray for peace. Pray for freedom from the grips of fear and pain. Then let go and let God.

Prayer

Father, I praise You, first and foremost because of Who You are and because You are All-in-All. I am me because of You. No human, object, or place defines or encompasses what I have with You. There are no substitutes, only counterfeits. What I have with You is special and I hope that I never diminish the value of our relationship through my speech or actions. There are no other gods, beings, or energies that I want to be aligned with. I just want You.

I thank You for blessing me with examples of great servant-leaders, ambassadors, and followers to learn about and learn from. I thank You for each person You bring in my life, whether for a season or a lifetime, I know there is always a reason. Thank You for loving and caring for me. I love You always.

And with that family, I pray that you are blessed, that you see and embrace your blessings, and that you are a blessing to others.

Lovingly,

Natasha

The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, “You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son. Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean. You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. Judges 13:2-5

Reflection

There’s nothing God can’t do for you, through you, and to you. Believe and have faith. That barren woman gave birth to a son, Samson, and he did exactly what God’s angel said he would.

Are you listening for God’s voice? Are you paying attention to the angels around you who are trying to guide you?

That faint voice in your head sharing words of encouragement and enlightenment, declarations of a successful future, are not your mortal thoughts or imagination, but rather God planting spiritual seeds and outlining your road map. Tune in and stay connected!

Prayer

Father, thank You for making a way out of no way; for making the impossible possible, the crooked straight, and bringing Light to darkness. I love You, Lord, and I know that You will always make things right in my life, deliver me from bad situations, and direct my path even when I stray. Thank You, Father.

Scripture

With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it.

Judges 16:16

Reflection

I don’t know about you, but I detest nagging. Whether it’s a woman or man, it doesn’t matter. Something changes in the person’s voice that is so annoying. I’m sure that from their viewpoint they’re thinking that they wouldn’t have to nag if they weren’t forced to repeat themselves because other people won’t answer them, keep dropping the ball, or not doing their part.

I think it’s more about the energy and tone of the incessant requests, and that they’re usually layered with a lot of snarkiness, eye-rolling, and unnecessary body language that screams louder than words—which makes you want to clobber them with dozens of huge water balloons filled with multi-colored slime.

For hours.

Visualize that.

Not Christ-like huh? But I made you smile and possibly laugh! And consider this, there’s really no room for nagging in a slime balloon fight! Imagine you and them soaking wet and covered in layers of colors from top to bottom. It’s better than most of the alternatives we choose. Well, let’s get back to the nagging and see what else we can do to address this situation.

Oh no you didn’t Delilah!

Let’s look at this Bible verse. It’s about Samson and Delilah, and little Miss. I don’t know how many men were there but it had to be more than a few. Delilah sold out Samson and the only way she achieved her goal was to nag him incessantly day after day. She tried to guilt-trip and shame him. She wore him down until he gave up.

Samson’s discernment wasn’t activated because he was distracted and confused from her constant bombardment.

Why didn’t Samson ever ask Delilah, “Why in the world do you keep asking me this question Delilah? And why do you keep yelling that the Philistines are going to get me immediately after you tie me up?” I mean, wouldn’t you want to know why someone would ask about the source of your strength and how you can be tied and subdued?

Samson wasn’t the smartest dude was he? Or is it a combination of also not giving Delilah much credit for her cunningness. He should’ve said, “I don’t know” or “I get my strength from God and only He can subdue me”. BAM! Either response would have shut Delilah up, about that matter, at least for a few weeks. Even though the easiest response would have been, “Delilah I’m not telling you so stop asking me. It has nothing to do with loving you or not. I just don’t want anyone to know and that includes you. If you can’t accept that then I don’t know what else to say.”

Just like positive energy waves, negative energy waves can latch on to you, but instead of lifting you up it drains and eats away at you like poison.

Amen.

Welcome this new month. Don’t be a Delilah and don’t fall under the pressure of a Delilah!

Love,

Natasha

Breaking Bread For 1.5.22

“We all have and will face male and female Delilah’s in our lifetime. God has given you choices. Follow Him and thrive, or give in to temptation and be conquered by it. Listen to His voice and not the voice of Satan who would stop at nothing to get you to destroy your relationship with God. The enemy will have you make a fool of yourself, in your superhero costume trying to rescue the damsel in distress—who by the way is probably Satan’s double agent.”

Scripture

“So Delilah said to Samson, “Tell me please, where does your great strength come from? How could you be bound to subdue you?”

Now it came about when she nagged him daily with her speeches and kept bothering him, his soul was annoyed to death. So he divulged to her all his heart and said to her, “No razor has ever been upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me, and I will be weak and be like any other man.”

Then she made him sleep upon her knees, and she called for a man and had the seven locks of his head shaved off. She even began to humiliate him while his strength departed from him.”

Judges‬ ‭16:6, 16-17, 19‬ ‭TLV‬‬

Reflection

Although we know that God, not hair, was Samson’s strength, but let’s save that for another day. Today let’s focus on little miss Delilah , who was all about self. She had aspirations and was only concerned with how to get what she wanted, and she wasn’t concerned with how she would get there. Whether it was Samson or another man, she would climb their backs to get what she wanted. In this case she betrayed the man she claimed to love for…money.

Maybe Delilah had trust issues from seeing men take advantage and use up women, and she swore to never be a victim but always a victor. We see this women and men. She obviously didn’t realize that betraying someone never puts you in the winner’s column. Nope it makes you the big loser and you have to pay for the sin you committed against your victims and your sin committed against God.

Be weary of the person who is consistently looking for your weaknesses, looking for your vulnerability and areas in which you couldn’t survive attack. Be cautious of how much, and what, information you divulge and to whom. Things that God entrusts in you is for you, do not betray that trust by sharing intimate details with others. It was nobody’s business yet Samson made it so.

Delilah challenged his love and loyalty [v.15], which is also a challenge to his character and honor. Our (just like Samson’s) first and most important vow is to God and anyone who puts us in a position to compromise that vow needs to be put in their place. When people say, “If you loved me you would…” pay close attention, for “love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking…” [1 Corinthians 13:5]. Delilah was enraged that Samson wouldn’t tell her the truth about how to defeat him. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-5, 7 says that “Love is kind…it is not easily angered… it always protects…” Delilah wasn’t demonstrating love but Samson was blinded by love, or maybe lust.

Understand that God believes in helping those who help themselves, but not those who do so at the expense of others. Delilah was placed in Samson’s life to test him. Would he be obedient to God or would he cave under pressure of temptation? Samson had multiple opportunities to resist Delilah, not divulge his gift, and even to remove her from his life. Samson did not seize those opportunities. His ego got in the way.

We all have and will face male and female Delilah’s in our lifetime. God has given you choices. Follow Him and thrive, or give in to temptation and be conquered by it. Listen to His voice and not the voice of Satan who would stop at nothing to get you to destroy your relationship with God. The enemy will have you make a fool of yourself, in your superhero costume trying to rescue the damsel in distress—who by the way is probably Satan’s double agent.

Delilah didn’t realize she had more to gain in her loyalty to Samson than in her alliance with the Philistines. How could she when she was blinded by money and power? She was a puppet of Satan.
Look around, do you see any Delilah’s hanging around, calling, texting, emailing you? Seize your day and declare it as “TRADING DELILAH DAY” as you get the Delilah’s out of your life.

Prayer

Father, protect me from my ego that is easily swayed to react without following Your counsel and guidance. I ask for discernment, insight, courage, and the obedience to follow Your lead. If I somehow succumb to pressures or temptation, protect me Lord and strengthen me once more that I may overcome those who would stand in my way of serving You. My most important and valued relationship is the one I have with You. I know that the enemy is always trying to attack and destroy what we have. I pray to You for wisdom, strength, clarity, patience, tenacity, endurance, and protection. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Lovingly, Natasha

Breaking Bread For 7.13.21

Scripture

They also failed to show any loyalty to the family of Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) in spite of all the good things he had done for them.

Judges 8:35

Reflection

Gideon did a lot of great things for the Israelites, but soon after he passed away, they stopped showing his family any loyalty and they slid back to their old ways of thinking and living. They began worshipping another god, dismissing and forgetting the God that rescued them time and time again.

That’s what backsliders do. Something changes in their life and rather than look at that the setback or disappointment as something to learn from and then move forward, they instead sacrifice the entire landscape. It’s like destroying an entire house because one window broke or one door fell off the hinges.

The Israelites showed their character, their lack of loyalty, their unwillingness to be faithful, and their faded gratitude.

We’re to love Him because every single day He shows His love for us.

Lovingly,

Natasha

Breaking Bread For 6.30.20

Scripture

A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was childless, unable to give birth. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”

Judges 13:2-5

Reflection

There’s nothing God can’t do for you, through you, and to you. Believe and have faith. Be disciplined as you pray, work, create, and serve.

That barren, childless woman gave birth to a son, Samson, and he did exactly what God’s angel said he would.

Imagine receiving the message she heard. How many of you would be in shock, disbelieve, chalk it up as a twisted thought, or even as a joke of the devil?

How many dreams have chased you for days, months, and years—yet you never pursued them, never prepared yourself to achieve them, never challenged yourself to turn them into goals, so God could guide you to victory?

How many dreams and ideas have you abandoned because they seemed unattainable, impossible, too late to make happen?

Are you listening for God’s voice? Are you paying attention to the angels around you who are trying to guide you?

That faint voice in your head sharing words of encouragement and enlightenment, declarations of a successful future are not your mortal thoughts or imagination, but rather, it’s the work of God— planting and nurturing spiritual seeds, and outlining your road map—all while reminding you who you are and to Whom you belong.

Those negative, defeating, deflating, limiting thoughts are planted and ripened by the enemy. That booger (yep, that’s what I’m calling it today), it works hard to convince you not to be in alignment with God, to not find and see the countless reasons to praise and pray to God. The moment God’s seed touches your spiritual and mental “soil”, the enemy leaps into action. It desperately tries to get you to not take interest in that seed growing and bearing gifts. It delegates tasks to crew members who are assigned to derail your forward progress.

That is why discernment and clarity are key to fully receiving the gifts that God has for you. You have to be able to clearly hear and see the messages being delivered, and have discernment to know which party is sending them to you, so you know when and how to engage.

What I’m learning now is not to ignore the enemy and its gang. Acknowledge their presence and that they are interlopers. The key is to not empower them by entertaining their influential ways. We’re to acknowledge their presence and intent, while also acknowledging that they only have relevance because God makes it possible, and they only have influence if we give in to the temptations and trappings.

It reminds me of a cousin of mine who used to bug me and try to bully me. If I was watching TV she would stand in front of it to block my view. So what would I do? I would look her directly in the eyes, acknowledging her presence and that I knew her feeble attempts, and then I would redirect my eyes to the level of the TV screen and stare at it as though I were still able to see the program. So that was about the level of her waist.

By doing this it enraged her. She kept looking around to see if I could still see the TV, even though she knew she was standing in front of it. The longer she stood there the longer I stared in the direction of the TV, sometimes smiling and laughing in response to the show’s characters. I couldn’t see a thing, but I knew that TV was there. When she turned the TV off, I continued staring in its direction. I knew it was there and I knew I wouldn’t let her annoy me to the point where I would abandon my pursuit of happiness. Eventually my cousin gave up and walked away. I then happily watched my program. I showed the bully that she had no power and dominion over me.

That is what we are to do with the enemy and its gang. Remind them each day that just like us, they are only here because God makes it possible. The enemy does not have equal or greater power than God. But both want your attention and ultimately your soul. You need to know whom you’re dealing with to know how to think, speak, and act.

When God speaks to you, when He uses angels and other people to speak to and connect with you, tune in, stay connected, and tell the enemy and its crew, “I see and hear you, but you aren’t relevant. You won’t block my blessing. Go somewhere else.

God has amazing things planned for you, whether you’re the age of a child or a centenarian. Don’t place limits on God. He’s not placing any on you. That’s the thinking and actions of the enemy—always trying to keep you from goodness and testifying to God’s glory, mercy, and love. Be obedient like Samson’s mother. Even if you question God or His messengers, do so while you follow through with His directives—like the child who asks their parent, “Why do I have to brush my teeth?” as they stand on the stool or bench brushing their teeth. As their teeth are being cleaned they learn the lesson. It’s not defiance or insubordination to ask God questions. That’s called seeking clarity. Defiance is making the choice to not obey. There’s a big difference.

Prayer

Father, thank You for making a way out of no way; for making the impossible possible, the crooked straight, and bringing Light to darkness. Thank You for never giving up on me, no matter how many times I stray from Your path. Thank You for providing me with answers, even if I’m too distracted to hear, see, and discern them. Thank You for loving me flaws and all, and showing me how to love You, myself, and others. You know that I’m still a work in progress in that area and many others. But You love and support me anyway. Thank You.

I love You Lord and I know that You will always make things right in my life even if all that I see is dread and doom. I know that You will deliver me from bad situations or help me to learn the lessons that I was too distracted to discern sooner. I know that You direct my path even when I stray. Like a child that wanders in the store and park, You see me wander in life—but You never leave my side. Thank You Father.

You have shared some big dreams with me. Some excite me to action, others excite me to a state of analysis paralysis, while others have me in such awe that I don’t know what to do or say. Of course, the enemy is plotting. So I ask that You reinforce me with the tools to circumvent the attempts to redirect me. Just as we teach children about stranger danger we teach them to be aware of the intent of those they know. Please strengthen my discernment and clarity to realize and identify that which I know and don’t know, so that I’m not caught up in a trap that only You can free me from.

Help me to listen, know Your voice from others, know Your messengers from the enemy’s, so that I can act in accordance to Your plan. I want to love You beyond words. Through disciplined obedience I demonstrate my fullest and purest of love. I praise You and I pray only to You. Amen.

Scripture

With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it.

Judges 16:16

Reflection

Place people into categories. Separate yourself from the drama. You may not be able to control elements of life and what people do or say, but you can control in what capacity and how often you interact with these people. You can dictate how a conversation will go with a negative person by simply shutting them down when the venom flows from their mouth, and then remove yourself from the situation. Tell them to contact you when their mind and heart is right.

The time and energy you invest in negative people (and resolving nothing) could be better spent focusing on what God has planned for you. Just like positive energy waves, negative energy waves can latch on to you, and drain and eat away at you like a disease.

Welcome this new month. See it as a fresh start. It’s Day One…now do something positive in your life and lovingly put those energy-drainers in their rightful place.

Prayer

Father I pray for peace and joy in my life that I might come home to an environment free of drama, nagging, guilt trips, and negativity. I may have to deal with the drama of the ‘world’ outside of my home, but while in my home and while dealing with family and loved ones I should not be subjected to the negativities of the ‘world’.

Father touch the heart of those who enter my environment and those who contact me- that they be warmed and softened enough that they bite their tongue and refrain from trying to make me a part of their drama. Father touch my heart that I lovingly refuse to deal with the drama, nagging, guilt trips, and negativity and instead turn to You for comfort. Be my buffer Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

MISSED POST: Natasha’s Daily Scripture, Prayer, and Reflection for 6.12.14

I never realized that this message was never posted. My apologies.

~Natasha

Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute and went to bed with her. When the Gazites heard that Samson was there, they surrounded the place and waited in ambush for him all that night at the city gate. While they were waiting quietly, they said, “Let us wait until dawn; then we will kill him.”

Some time later, he fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the Sorek Valley. The Philistine leaders went to her and said, “Persuade him to tell you where his great strength comes from, so we can overpower him, tie him up, and make him helpless. Each of us will then give you 1,100 pieces of silver.” So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me, where does your great strength come from? How could someone tie you up and make you helpless? ”

Because she nagged him day after day and pleaded with him until she wore him out, he told her the whole truth and said to her, “My hair has never been cut, because I am a Nazirite to God from birth. If I am shaved, my strength will leave me, and I will become weak and be like any other man.”

Judges 16:1, 2, 4-6, 16, 17 HCSB

Pray
Father protect me. Protect my heart, mind, tongue, body, spirit, and soul. Protect me from myself, from the enemy, and from those the enemy would use against me to discredit You. Father enhance my discernment to see and hear what is needed, and the courage to release things over to You to handle.

Father please turn my weaknesses to strengths, and touch me to honor them and protect them. Enhance my strengths Lord, and provide me with a protective layer so that even under attack, I am never defeated. In Jesus’ name I humbly pray. Amen.

Reflection
Be careful to protect the assets God has given you. Be careful who you associate with. Be careful who you share your most prized possessions, including your energy, heart, and mind. Samson allowed himself to be exposed. Samson didn’t see what others were plotting against him. He didn’t know not to trust Delilah. He didn’t value his gifts from God enough to protect them at all costs. Protect yourself.

Questions of the Day
1. How does Samson’s story relate to your own life?

2. What can you learn from Samson?

Feel free to share your answers, prayers, comments, and reflections in the comment section below. You can also send me an email at: breakingbreadwithnatasha@gmail.com

Please also feel free to share this post with others. We’re never quite sure who needs to hear and see what, and when! It would be awesome if whenever you run across a prayer, message, or scripture that moves you, you would kindly share it with the rest of us. You can post it on this blog or send me an email.

Love always,
Natasha
